Daylight Sunlight Consulting Ltd provides light loss advice for all types of proposed developments, working with developers, architects, planners and neighbouring owners
Proposed developments can cause a reduction in the amount of daylight and sunlight enjoyed by an adjoining owner, as well as overshadowing external garden spaces to residents and public open spaces. We advise during the planning application stages, and have seen schemes refused on grounds of daylight, sunlight and overshadowing impacts.
For rights of light, if too much light is taken away the courts can prevent development proceeding by way of an injunction, or have a development taken down if it has been completed without consideration of its neighbour’s light.
WE ADVISE DEVELOPING PARTIES, AFFECTED ADJOINING OWNERS, AND PROVIDE THIRD PARTY ADVICE TO INSTITUTIONS, SUCH AS LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND DEVELOPMENT FUNDERS.
BESPOKE SERVICE
Having experience in all facets of daylight and sunlight analyses, we are able to tailor our advice to meet the needs of a client. For developing parties, we suggest being instructed at an early stage in the design process, so that we can work with the design team to provide a solution that balances risk versus viability. For adjoining owners, we are able to identify the extent of light losses and advise on the best course of action to protect their rights. When acting for third parties, having been within the industry for many years, we are able to give an objective overview of the issues and risks, advising on an acceptable summary of the effects so that key decisions can be taken.
